As I have mentioned (probably ad nauseam) both of my children were born via c-section. I’ve never touched on the subject with my artwork until now.
I thought and I thought for several days about how I could put into image form how I felt about my personal birth experiences. I didn’t think I could give it justice because there is just so many aspects that deserve attention in the process of this kind of birth. Courage is definitely one. Pain. Blood. Cutting… Fear. Love. And so on… I stayed with it and eventually “Incision” seemed to almost complete itself.
I hope you find something meaningful in this latest addition to my Birth Art Collection.
About Jody
My name is Jody Noelle Coughlin. I am 32 years old. I’ve been painting for the past 6 and a half years, but I’ve always loved to be creative. I am a self-taught artist accustomed to working in oil, pastel, acrylic, watercolor and charcoal. I am the mother of two. My son is nine and my daughter is seven. I love being a mother more than anything! I’ve been married for nine years to a wonderful husband and father named Ian. In the past while, the topic of birth art has really spoken to me mainly because I know so many new moms who are taking back the birth experience and making it their own. I love that! If I could go back and re-do the births of my children, I would definitely take what I have learned and apply it to my own experience. However, since I cannot go back, I’ve decided to pour my heart and soul into creating Birth Art in honor of mothers across the globe. I hope people find inspiration within my images as they go along their parenting and family journey.
